Abstract |
Traces efforts throughout the United States between the 1920 s and the 1950 s by African-American publishers, academics, and librarians to make literature with wholesome images of blacks availableto black children. The author particularly narrates the creation between the 1900 s and 1940 s of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a division of the New York City public library that led thecampaign for positive black children s literature.
