Abstract |
A study examined school-based linkages for urban-based educational systems serving Latinos. Participants were 24 Puerto Rican families living in Boston. Results indicated that Puerto Rican parents had a very limited support system and were not comfortable seeking aid from social services organizations. However, the elementary school that their children attended was one of the most significant resources in their lives. Thus, urban-based schools can fill a major vacuum in Latino communities and can attract other formal resources to help Latino families.
