Abstract For Asian immigrants, because of drastically different value systems, getting old in the US poses a number of dilemmas, in particular, whether families should expect & abide by the Asian value orientation of collectivism or follow the mainstream US value of individualism. Here, using interview data from 30 elderly Indo-Asians in three US cities, an ethnographic approach is operationalized through interpretive interactionism for an understanding of the interaction between the elderly & their families & their overall coping & adaptation process in the US. 1 Table, 23 References.
