Abstract Part of a special issue on gender. In an introduction, the writers highlight several themes that have emerged from the articles in this special issue as potential areas of concentration for social work practice. These include gender issues as they relate to school contexts during adolescence and the effect of school subcontexts on gender issues, in particular, the concurrence of aggressive and oppressive behaviors and unsupervised or monitored areas in the school; issues of gender as they relate to ethnicity; the dynamics of oppression, power, and privilege; and economic factors.
