Abstract Social work practice in poor, inner-city neighborhoods can be enhanced through assessment of individual & community needs that takes into account various forms of capital, ie, financial, human, social, cultural, environmental, & political. These forms of capital are defined & illustrated, based on a review of social science studies of the social problems in inner-city neighborhoods.
