The Inaugural San Francisco State University Community Colloquium in Jewish Studies

The San Francisco State University Community Colloquium in Jewish Studies brings the academy to the community and the community to the scholars. The SFSU Jewish Studies Program created this forum for serious reflection on issues and problems that shape and challenge Jewish identity. The idea behind the colloquium is to go beyond simple notions of teaching in the community to present critical academic approaches to an issue from different perspectives. Through this set of comparative presentations, important themes in contemporary Jewish life will be explored and elucidated.

Sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program, San Francisco State University, and made possible by the Annette Dobbs Family Supporting Foundation.
Co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Congregation Eman-El, and the BJE Community Library.

Academica Judaica

Academica Judaica is San Francisco State University's academic forum for scholarly discourse in Jewish Studies that has been a part of campus life since 1973. Inviting the best scholars and personalities from the Bay Area and beyond, this forum addresses the full range of complex issues in Jewish Studies. Participants have included Jewish Studies faculty from institutions of higher learning from all over the world, as well as prominent non-academic authors, artists, musicians, and activists whose knowledge and activity is worthy of academic consideration. Although Academica Judaica is sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program, individual presentations are often co-sponsored with other University departments and programs that have scholarly interest in particular topics and issues.
