Dr. Hemphill is Professor and Associate Dean in the College of Education at San Francisco State University. His teaching and research interests include cultural studies, educational equity issues, adult education, literacy, second language acquisition, critical theories, international education, and research methods. Prior to coming to the university he worked for ten years as a classroom teacher and program director in immigrant education programs in Oakland and San Francisco. He is the author of two language-teaching textbook series, an award-winning study of literacy and technology, and numerous articles and monographs.
