Werner Schmidt has taught in the ITEC Program for the past 15 years, and occasionally in the Training and Development Department at the UC Berkeley Extension School. He currently serves as the Administrator of Technical Training programs at East Bay Municipal Utility District in Oakland, CA. His duties entail training and performance improvement for all the field forces that maintain the pipelines, filter plants, pumping plants, and peripheral trades areas.
Previously, Werner was head of the SolarWork Institute, a major California job training and development program operating out of then Governor Jerry Brown’s Office of Planning and Research. Subsequently he was the founder and president of an energy management consulting and training firm for six years. He then took an assignment as a training manager for a high-tech startup firm, and was later an independent consultant specializing in performance improvement, evaluation, and human resources financial analysis.
Mr. Schmidt is the past president of the Golden Gate Chapter of ASTD and the past president of the Bay Area Chapter of ISPI. In 1984, he was appointed by Mayor Dianne Feinstein to serve on the San Francisco Energy Management Advisory Committee.
