Special Major - BA Degree


IHHS offers a unique core of undergraduate courses, which can become the heart of a pre-professional Special Major. This major provides excellent preparation for graduate training in conventional, alternative health care and/or health related fields (see HH Career Paths and HH advising - below)

The Special Major is an ideal option for students seeking an interdisciplinary path of study that cannot be completed through an existing undergraduate major. Students design their own individual course of study around a cohesive theme that includes the following academic requirements:


  • A minimum of 45 semester units from three or more departments within two Colleges of the University.
  • At least 9 units, and no more than 21 units, from each of the three departments, with at least 36 units from upper division courses.
  • Approval by a Special Major advisor (see below).
  • At least 30 units of work to be completed after final approval is received
