The Holistic Health Speaker's Series invites leading authors, clinicians, researchers, healers

and social visionaries to share their explorations of the frontiers of health and healing. The Series seeks to integrate the knowledge of the sciences, healing arts and ancient wisdom traditions to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of human potential while encouraging

us to "re-think our assumptions" and seek applications for personal well-being and a healthier world. Join us in exploring the evolution of health care, and the accompanying changes in culture and consciousness. The Series is open to the community at no cost. Speakers include:

 

 

September 12  Novel Therapies for Cancer & Immune Disorders

                       Learn about the integration of current immunological and natural therapies in

                       treatment and prevention of cancer and immune deficiencies such as chronic

                       fatigue and viral infections - with Robert Gorter, MD, Associate Clinical Prof.,

                       UCSF Medical School and director of the international institute for oncological

                       and immunological research in Cologne, Germany.

 

 

September 19  Art for Recovery: Role of Creative Expression in Self-Healing

                     Research shows when people express true feelings, especially when they are

              coping with a serious illness, the immune system is enhanced and healing is

              supported.  Join us and experience stories and artwork created by patients

              living with cancer and AIDS from the UCSF "Art for Recovery" program. Our

                     guide is Cindy Perlis, Director of Art for Recovery since its inception in 1988.

 

 

September 26  Chinese Herbs & Taoist Practices for Hygeine and Longevity

                      An introduction to Taoist nutrition, digestive aids and longevity practices:

                      herbs as foods, breathing techniques, chi gung, etc. with Nam Singh, Taoist

                      priest and founder of Northstar Academy, a Center for Taoist Macrobiotics.

 

 

October 3     Make Health Happen: Training Yourself to Create Wellness –

                   Book Release/Presentation by author & HH Director Erik Peper

          Join us and discover a helpful new book by Erik Peper, Katherine Gibney and

          Cathy Holt. Learn pragmatic self-mastery and healing skills (i.e. effortless

          breathing and dynamic regeneration) to reverse illness and mobilize health.

             Dr. Erik Peper is Director of The Institute for Holistic Healing Studies, SFSU,

             Director of Work Solutions USA and President of the Biofeedback Foundation

             of Europe. His recent books and tapes include Breathing for Health and

             Healthy Computing with Muscle Biofeedback.

 

 

October 10    Embodied Life: Integrating Feldenkrais Movement & Meditation

                     Explore healing and greater freedom by using gentle movement experiments

            and meditative awareness to be enjoyably present and more at-home in

            yourself (i.e. free of past constrictions). Russell Delman has been teaching

            the Feldenkrais Method for 25+ years. His teaching is also informed by 30

October 17  Touch Therapies & Principles of Body/Mind Healing

                   Learn core “Hands-On” healing methods – including 4 principles of body-based

                   energy work with meditation techniques for focusing attention and touch. With

                   Therapy) and Instructor: Massage, Anatomy and Physiology, and Energy Healing.

 

 

October 24  Finding Your Passion & Planning for Holistic Careers

                   Mariko Hingston is the SFSU Career Center liaison to the College of Health and

                   Human Services. She a career counselor with over 20 years of experience helping

                   people find their values, skills and passion and take them into the world of work.

November 7   Celebration of Chinese Medicine & the Teaching of Angela Wu

                     Join us for a special event honoring the healing arts of Chinese Medicine and

            in giving special appreciation to Angela Wu for her years of teaching and

                      mentoring SFSU students in these valuable healing methods. Join us in

  celebrating Dr. Wu and the field of Chinese medicine – the fastest growing

  health care profession in the US.

 

  Keynote Presentation: “Chi” by Michael Smith, MD, Dac. Director of the

  Lincoln Hospital Recovery Center, Bronx, NY.  Dr. Smith is founder of The

  National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA), a nonprofit organization

  emphasizing public education about acupuncture* as a recovery tool and the

November 14  Feng Shui: Creating Harmony in Life

                      Bliss Fleet, a teacher of Black Hat Feng Shui, will guide us in the principles

                      and personalized practice of this ancient and modern art. She is also a faculty

                      member of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
