In 1993, AmeriCorps incorporated two existing national service programs: the longstanding VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America ) program and the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups.


The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) is a national voluntary association of higher education institutions and other organizations dedicated to continuing professional development for teachers and school leaders in order to enhance PK-12 student learning.


Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U): Resources for Civic Engagement

AAC&U membership consists of 1,150 institutions of higher education. Its website lists a number of print and online resources related to civic engagement that help faculty and students connect scholarship to public questions, consider alternative frameworks for judgment and action, draw meaning from experience, and evaluate theories and practices.


California Campus Compact

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents—representing some 6 million students—who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education. As the only national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact promotes public and community service that develops students' citizenship skills, helps campuses forge effective community partnerships, and provides resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum. Campus Compact's membership includes public, private, two- and four-year institutions across the spectrum of higher education


Corporation for National & Community Service
The Corporation for National and Community Service provides critical strategic support to volunteer organizations and is the nation’s largest grantmaker supporting service and volunteering. Through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America programs, they provide opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to address critical community needs.
