Where is it located?
On the fourth floor of the Humanities Building, room HUM 412. The phone number is (415) 338-2089.
When is it open?
During spring and fall semesters our hours are Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 6 PM, and on Fridays 9 AM to 1 PM. Kitty's hours are Monday through Thursdays 9 AM to 2 PM. All additional hours are covered by student assistants. Summer hours will vary. Our hours will always be posted outside HUM 412 and on our phone message at 338-2089
What if I teach in the evening after you close
or at 8 a.m. before you open?
For evening classes, you should plan to stop in before 6 PM. If that is not possible, you can call and request a piece of equipment be left for you in the Faculty Computer Lab in HUM 405. We can also leave equipment in there in the evening for your 8 PM class. This arrangement requires you to have a key to HUM 405. If you plan to use our equipment and you frequently teach 8 AM or 7 PM classes, please order a key through your department office.
How do I check out equipment? (For faculty only)
If you are located in a room with an A-V console, contact the Academic Technology
department in the library at 338-1494 to find out what is in your
classroom and to get the access code. Some consoles contain a carousel
slide projector, overhead projector, opaque projector, VCR, and
a hook-up for laptops. For all other equipment, call 338-2089 and
make a reservation. Please reserve ahead of the time you need it, so that you know
whether it is available or not.
How do I check out slides? (For faculty only)
Fill out a slide check-out list. Slides are for on-campus use only. If you will be using a lot of slides, tell the staff so that we can make name cards, which you will use in lieu of writing a list of slides.
Do you make slides for faculty or students?
No. Chris Rosales, the Academic Technology Photo department (x2635) makes up to 200 slides
per faculty member or a certain amount of digital images per semester,
which you can keep. It will take approximately 6 weeks. If you would
like them quicker, you can process the film yourself. Slides are
made for the Humanities collection as needed. They will take approximately
4-6 weeks for processing and cataloging.
Do you pull slides for faculty?
Normally, no. However, if an emergency comes up, we will help.
Can students use slides for classes?
Yes, they are allowed to check out slides only during the class period. Students can pull slides and set them aside up to a week before their presentation. They must fill out a slide check-out list, get their instructor's signature, and leave their student ID when they pick up the slides. Slides are for on-campus use only.
How can I use the slide viewer in the hallway outside of HUM 412?
The slide viewer in the hallway is used by students to review slides shown in class. It is available on a first-come first-served basis. Ask Kitty or a Slide Library Student Assistant for the key.
