For those within 90 days of retirement, this class will assist you in completing the step-by-step process of filling out your retirement application. This is an alternative to visiting the Walnut Creek regional office. Bring your application and a copy of your Retirement Estimate. If applicable, your spouse or domestic partner should attend the class so that both your signatures can be witnessed on the application.
Seating is limited.

In order to continue to provide timely, responsive and consistent customer service, the department will be open an additional hour Monday through Friday (with the exception of Wednesday). The offices will be closed on Wednesday to maximize the staff's time to review and process personnel transactions and implement required programmatic changes. Staff will check voicemail and email and respond to urgent matters. All other requests for assistance will be answered on the next business day.

Open enrollment provides benefits eligible employees the opportunity to enroll in a plan if NOT currently enrolled, change coverage from one plan to another, change enrollment status of eligible family members, enroll/re-enroll in Dependent Care and Health Care Reimbursement Account programs, learn about upcoming changes for 2010, review their current health plan as well as consider health plan options for the following year.
**All changes made during open enrollment will be effective January 1, 2010. **

Fee Waiver - Fall 2009 Information
The Fee Waiver & Reduction Program information for fall 2009 is now available in Human Resources, Safety & Risk Management (ADM 252). The Fee Waiver & Reduction Program enables eligible University employees to take courses, which are Work Related or are part of an approved Individual Career Development Plan, at reduced rates. And in many cases, if an employee is not using their benefit they can transfer their benefit to their spouse/domestic partner or dependent child.
*Fall 2009 Filing Deadline: June 25, 2009
*Applications submitted after 5pm on the filing deadline will be DENIED.

Swine Flu - Resources & Information
"While now is not the time for alarm, now is a good time to learn how you can prevent transmission or spot symptoms of flu. Take everyday precautions to stay healthy: Clean your hands frequently, preferably using hand sanitizers that consist of at least 60 percent alcohol, especially after you cough or sneeze. Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue when you cough. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to limit the spread of germs. Close contact and hand-to-hand transmission are the primary means of spreading the illness among humans. No specific foods or food groups are associated with transmission." --Robert A. TSA Lunchtime Workshops
Benefits and Retirement Services will host a TSA (403B) Workshop Series in May and June of 2009. Representatives from AIG, ING, MetLife, Fidelity and TIAA-CREF will be on campus conducting 1-hr. informational workshops for employees interested in learning more about the 403B retirement savings plans.
All sessions are scheduled from 12pm – 1pm in room 460, in the administration building. The dates are as follows:

May 20, 2009 – AIG
May 27, 2009 – ING
June 10, 2009 – TIAA-CREF

This class is for CalPERS members who are within 3-4 months of retiring and are ready to start the process of filling out their retirement application.
Topics include: The Service Retirement Application: Retirement Application Process, Direct Deposit, Optional Deductions, Adjustments, Health Benefits, Power of Attorney, Getting Your Check on Time, Keeping Informed, On-line Resources,Contacting CalPERS. Seating is very limited and available only to those who are going to retire within 3-4 months. Spouses are welcome to attend.

Commuter Check Benefit Increases to $230
The IRS has approved an increase in the monthly maximum allowable tax free amount toward commuter benefits. Starting January 1, 2009, the new monthly maximums allowed for transit and vanpool costs will be $230.00 and $230.00 per month for qualified commuter parking.
Please note that for current enrollees, this change will not automatically increase their order. Employees who wish to increase their benefit amount will need to log in to their online account to increase their current amount to the new maximum.
