Term Life Insurance

The CSU pays the premium for basic term life insurance for certain units as follows:

  • Unit 1 (UAPD) $ 25,000
  • Units 2, 5, 7, 9 (CSEA) $ 10,000
  • Unit 3 (Faculty) $ 50,000
  • Unit 4 (APC) $ 25,000
  • Unit 8 (SUPA) $ 10,000
  • Unit 11 (Teaching Associates) $ 30,000
  • Unit 12 (Head Start) $ 50,000
  • Confidentials $ 50,000
  • Executives $ 250,000
  • MPP $100,000

Accidental Death and Disability Benefits

The CSU pays the premium for basic term accidental death and dismemberment insurance for certain units as follows:

  • Unit 1 (UAPD) $ 25,000
  • Units 2, 5, 7, 9 (CSEA) $ 10,000
  • Unit 3 (Faculty) $ 50,000
  • Unit 4 (APC) $ 25,000
  • Unit 8 (SUPA) $ 10,000
  • Unit 11 (Teaching Associates) none
  • Unit 12 (Head Start) $ 50,000
  • Confidentials $ 50,000
  • Executives $ 250,000
  • MPP $100,000

Long-Term Disability

The CSU pays the premium for long-term disability insurance for Units 1, 3, 4, and MPP. The coverage is provided by Standard Life Insurance Company, replacing 66 2/3% (up to $10,000) of an employee's salary after 180 days of disability. For Unit 6, the long-term disability plan replaces 50% of the first $15,000 (up to $7,500) of an employee's salary until age 65. Long-term insurance coverage is provided by The Standard Life Insurance Company, and there is a 180-day waiting period before the benefit begins.

Voluntary Life Insurance

The Standard Insurance Company offers group life insurance that employees may purchase for themselves, their spouse, and their dependent children. Employees for whom term life insurance is provided by the CSU may choose to increase their coverage by participating in this program. Payments are made though payroll deduction on an after-tax basis.

Voluntary Long Term Care Insurance

CalPERS Long Term Care program is available to all CSU employees, their spouse, their parents, their in-laws, and their siblings. It covers extended care costs necessary due to chronic illness, injury, or frailty of old age. Care can be given in a nursing home, an assisted living facility, a hospice, or in the home.

There are a variety of plans available. Premiums are based on the type of plan chosen and the age of the enrollee. Enrollment must be done during an open enrollment period as set by the program.
