Classification & Compensation | IRP Requests

Requesting an In-Range Progression:

  • IRPs may be requested by administrators or by employees in Units 2, 5, 7 & 9
  • Complete the In-Range Progression Request Form in addition to any required supporting documentation.
  • If IRP is employee-requested, completed packet must first be submitted to appropriate administrator.
  • Follow established internal Departmental process to verify funding availability.
  • Forward packet to Human Resources (Note: all employee-requests for IRPs must be forwarded to Human Resources, whether or not funding is available).
  • Review process shall be completed no later than 90 days from the date that the request is received in Human Resources.
  • Following a complete review, the appropriate Cabinet-level officer shall decide upon the IRP request and return packet to Human Resources – this decision is final and is non-grievable.
  • Human Resources shall then provide a letter to the administrator and employee (if approved) as to the result of the IRP request within 30 days of the final decision.

Suggested percentage amount:

  • 2-3% - typical amount to reward for performance (IRPs for employees in Units 2, 5, 7 & 9 must be a minimum of 3% of base salary).
  • 3-8% - would typically apply for IRPs based on equity; increased skills, duties or responsibilities; or retention, with strong supporting documentation.
  • >8% - would typically be reserved for unit reorganization; requires memo of support from Dean/Director providing a detailed rationale outlining the organizational necessity, relevant internal comparisons, and a verification of the exceptional skills and abilities of the employee.
