Newcomers to San Francisco and the Bay Area - especially to those who live near the Pacific Ocean like we do - will find themselves faced
with the problem of condensation in their Residence Hall rooms. This problem becomes substantially worse in damp, rainy, or foggy weather.
However, there are steps you can take to avoid the growth of mildew:
Cross-ventilate your room for at least ten minutes a day. Leave your window open when you are in your room especially if you are on the first floor.
Keep restroom windows open
Do not air dry your clothes in your room.
Do not use humidifier in the room
Use bags of calcium chloride (available at hardware stores) to absorb moisture in confined areas such as closets. Dry-out can be purchased at Walgreens.
Wipe moisture from the inside of your windows and/or walls.
If you see signs of mildew submit a RS Request Form.
Our housekeeping associates have been professionally trained to remove mildew from your room.
After it has been removed, unless the cause of the mildew has been found and eliminated,
it may reappear in a month or two. Please check the area and again contact us.
