Wait list

For more detailed information on the SF State Housing wait list please click here.

Step 1: Application

SF State Housing is in high demand, and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. SF State highly recommends that students apply for Housing as soon as possible, even before being admitted to the University.

Applications are available beginning October 1st. You can apply on the SF State Housing Portal by clicking "continue to application" below. The date we receive your $55 application fee is your APPLICATION date.

As of October 1, 2013, Students will be able to fill out basic information and pay the application fee. While students will not be able to complete the rest of the Housing application process until April 1, 2014, it is highly recommended to start the application and pay the fee as soon as possible, as spaces will be given out based partly on the original application date.

For example, if two students complete their License Agreement process on April 1, the student with the earlier application date will be the first to receive Housing.

Please note that a valid SF State ID number is needed to access the SF State Housing Portal and apply for Housing. If you have applied for the University but have not yet received an ID number, or do not know what it is, please visit the SF State ID Lookup page. If you have not created, or have forgotten, your SF State password, you can create or reset it at SF State Password page.

Step 2: License Agreement

The License Agreement portion of the Portal will be available beginning April 1, 2014. Starting on that date, students can make Housing preferences, begin a roommate profile, sign the Terms & Conditions, and make the initial payment.

License Agreements are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, completing the License Agreement pages and making the initial payment as soon as possible will increase your probability of receiving a housing space. The date the License Agreement and initial payment are completed is the LICENSE AGREEMENT RECEIVED date.

The Priority deadline for completing the License Agreement and making the initial payment is May 1, 2014. Students may continue to complete License Agreements after May 1, but it is much more likely that the applicant will start out on the wait list.

Step 3: Confirmation

SF State Housing will confirm applicants for Housing spaces on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is based on License Agreement Received date AND Application Received date. Students who apply early and complete the License Agreement between April 1 and May 1 are generally more likely to receive a space.

SF State Housing will begin to send confirmations via email in May.

Wait list

Please note that it is possible to complete the application and License Agreement relatively early and still be placed on the wait list, as Housing is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

If housing is full when your License Agreement is completed, you may not receive any response from Housing until you receive a wait list notification.

Wait list notifications are sent twice a week from June through October. If you have not been confirmed by the time the wait list expires, you will be offered the opportunity to change your application to Spring only. Participating in Spring Forward allows you to keep your original application date, though you will be required to complete a new License Agreement (new payment may be required if you have been issued a refund from your Academic Year License Agreement).

Step 4: Assignment

Specific space assignment and roommate information will be emailed to the license holder approximately one month prior to Move-In Day. The email will include the assigned building and room number, roommate names and email addresses, and information about Move-In Day.
