CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: DEMOLITION OF THE FORMER SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

SF State University acquired the former San Francisco Unified School District School of the Arts (SOTA) located on Font Boulevard at Tapia Drive to convert the site into an outdoor recreation area for students that will be completed by Spring 2013.

The demolition of all structures on the site is now complete. Parking spaces fronting the property along Font Boulevard are temporarily closed and a pedestrian path has been created in the parking lane adjacent to the sidewalk, while site work and replacement of the sidewalk are underway. The contractor has posted City-required signage to alert pedestrians that work is in progress. Capital Planning, Design & Construction will monitor pedestrian access during construction.

As of November 27, 2012, the pathway located immediately south of the Village at Centennial Square will be closed to pedestrians and remain closed until early spring 2013. Vehicular access to the Village parking level will remain open. This closure is necessary for construction of new pathways which will in part replace the existing pathway along this edge of the new multi-purpose playfield.

Alternate Access: Alternate accessible pedestrian pathways are located either through the Village at Centennial Square (accessed via elevator at west end) or along the pedestrian pathway immediately south of the Towers at Centennial Square. Signage will be posted advising the campus community of these detours.

For updates on the project, visit www.sfsu.edu/~build/construct/SOTA.html or visit the SF State Capital Planning, Design and Construction website for information about other projects. To learn more about the University's master plan, visit www.sfsu.edu/~build/plan.htm
