- Software drivers and client utility for the wireless card installed.
- Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000 operating system.

All wireless card manufacturer's provide their own software for connecting to a wireless network. The images and instructions in this document will be different than what you will see on your computer.
Configuration Settings
- Install the software drivers and client utility that came with your wireless card. Different manufacturers will provide their own drivers and client utility.
- Configure your wireless client utility software to use the following settings:

If the wireless pop up windows indicates you are connected to SFSU, launch a web browser and logon as specified in STEP 3:Logging onto the Wireless Network of this document.
If you can not connect using this method (or do not see the message above) follow the steps below.
STEP 1: Detecting the Wireless Network
- When an SFSU wireless network is detected, a dialog box may appear from your wireless manufacturer's software icon on the Windows task bar and report that there are one or more wireless networks available. (The image below will vary depending on your wireless manufacturer's software).
- After viewing the message, you will need to typically click once on the wireless icon located on the Windows taskbar to view the available detected wireless networks. (You may need to right-click on the wireless icon to view available wireless networks).
Note: If the message in item A above does not appear, try the following:
- Right-click on the wireless icon typically located on the Windows taskbar.
(Note: Not all wireless software will place an icon in the Windows task bar. You may need to open the wireless client utility program from the Desktop or select your wireless software from the Windows Start -> Programs menu).

STEP 2: Selecting a Wireless Network

(Later, when you logon, security will be handled by an SSL encrypted webpage).- Click on the Connect button.
(The image below will vary depending on your wireless manufacturer's software).
- A Wireless Network Connection Status dialog box may appear and inform you of your connection and the quality of the connection's signal.
STEP 3: Logging onto the Wireless Network

- Enter your @sfsu.edu e-mail account name and password in the fields provided.
Your account name will be the first part of your e-mail address (everything before the @ symbol).
Your password will be the same as your e-mail password.- After entering this information, click the Logon User button.
At this point your Web browser should go to the site that you initially tried to access. Also, a pop up window will appear stating the time that you will need to login again. Currently, each login allows two hours of wireless access. After that time expires, you will need to login again.
Logging Off
When you are finished with your wireless session be sure to logoff. If you do not logoff your account will stay logged in for two hours and you will not be able to logon from another machine.
To logoff, click on the Logoff button on the Vernier Logoff Page Pop-Up window.
If you do not see the logoff Pop-Up window, see the Problems? section.
Problems?
- I do not see the Vernier Logoff Page
Your web browser may be set to block Pop-Up Windows. Reconfigure your web browser not to block Pop-Up Windows before you logon to the SFSU wireless network.
