SFSU Wireless Network
SFSU's wireless network was upgraded on June 1, 2006, to provide secure socket layer (SSL) version 3 support. This allows wireless capable hand-held devices (PDAs) with browsers that do not support SSL2 to connect to the SFSU wireless network. SSL3 connections are more secure than SSL2 connections so using an SSL3 capable browser is highly recommended. Since all current Mac and PC browsers support SSL 3, this is only an issue for older OS versions that cannot run a current browser.
MacOS 9 users must install and use Netscape 7.0.2 in order to connect to the SFSU wireless network.
- Most wireless-capable computers can access the on-campus wireless network.
- SFSU students, faculty and staff can use their @sfsu.edu account and password to login.
- Wireless activity is not secure unless encryption protocols (SSH, https) are used.
- OS X and Win XP users can use built-in operating system wireless support.
- Wireless access is available in the JPL Library, Quad, and many other outdoor areas.
- SSL 3.0 capable browsers are recommended. Only very old browser versions do not support SSL3.
