Restoring Default Unix Configuration Files When you log into the SFSU login servers (apollo or libra) with your account via telnet, two configuration files are automatically run to configure your session. If you can not use any commands in your account, it is possible that you may have inadvertantly deleted your configuration files, modified your configuration files incorrectly or your configuration files may have become corrupt. To restore your configuration files to their original form, follow the procedure below.
1. Use a telnet application to log into one of the SFSU login servers - apollo or libra with your SFSU account and password.
2. Rename your .login file .login_old by typing: cp .login .login_old
3. Rename your .cshrc file .cshrc_old by typing: cp .cshrc .cshrc_old
4. At the system (unix) prompt, type: cp /afs/sfsu.edu/common/AFSskel/.login .
(be sure to include the . at the end of the above command).
5. At the system (unix) prompt, type: cp /afs/sfsu.edu/common/AFSskel/.cshrc .
(be sure to include the . at the end of the above command).
6. At the system (unix) prompt, type: source .login
7. At the system (unix) prompt, type: source .cshrc
Your commands should now be functional again. If problems persist, stop by Admin building room 110 and a consultant can take a look at your account.
