Manual Login with the SFSU Internet Kit for Windows 3.x
You may want to debug problems dialing into the SFSU modem pool by performing a manual login procedure that bypasses the SFSU script and uses information entered by hand. To do so on a Microsoft Windows 3.x system you need to follow these procedures.
- Double-click on the
program group icon in the Program Manager window.
- Double-click on the
icon.
- Click on the Dialler menu on top of the screen and select Manual Login.
- Type atz and press [enter/return] key to reset your modem.
- Next, type atdt2390176 (you may need to type atdt14152390176 if you're out of the 415 area code) and press the [enter/return] key to dial in the 239-0176 modem line. (See Modem Resources for other phone numbers you can use).
- Type your login (account name) and password at the appropriate login and password prompt.
- Once you are authenticated, at the sfsu-annex#: prompt, type ppp (in lowercase) and press the [enter/return] key.
- You should see a message that says: PPP enabled. My IP number is ###.###.##.### where ###.###.##.### is the IP number assigned to your PPP session. Make sure that the IP number does not come out as all zeros otherwise you have not really obtained a true PPP connection. You may also see a series of junk noise characters after your IP address appears.
- Press the [ESC] key.
- Minimize your current screen by clicking on the hyphen (the Control Box) in the upper-left hand corner of your Trumpet Winsock window and selecting Minimize.
