Manual Login Procedure for the Macintosh using Config PPP
You may need to debug problems dialing into the SFSU modem pool by performing a manual login procedure that bypasses the automated login and uses information entered by the user. To do so on a Macintosh, you need to follow these procedures.
- Click on
menu => Control Panels => Config PPP.
- Put an X next to Terminal Window to enable manual login mode.
(If you want to turn it off manual login, just remove the X).

- Click on the Open button. You will see the PPP terminal session window.
WARNING: Do NOT click your mouse anywhere, the window is already defaulted and ready to take commands. If you make this mistake (TH will appear on your screen), you will need to cancel and start over. Cancel by clicking on the Cancel button.
- Type: atdt2390176 (you may need to type: atdt14152390176 if you are out of the area code) and then press the [return] key. (See Modem Resources for more dial-in numbers).
- After a connection has been established, type in your login (account name) and password at the correct prompts.
- At the sfsu-annex#: prompt, type: ppp (in lowercase) and press the [return] key. You should see a series of junk characters.
- Click on the OK button.
- At this point you should have Internet Access and should be able to use your Internet applications. Try starting up Netscape by double-clicking on the
icon or starting up Internet Explorer by clicking on the
icon.
