Removing Password Expiration Notice Since SFSU has removed password expiration dates, you may find that when you login to your account via telnet to UNIX command prompt, a message still shows that you have a password expiration date. This information is incorrect and can be removed by:
- Telnet to one of our two login hosts; and login with your account name and password.
- apollo.sfsu.edu
- libra.sfsu.edu
- At the server prompt, %, type in the command:
- pico .login
(Make sure that you have a space and a dot before the word login).
- Then press the [enter/return] key.
Your .login might look like this:# @(#)local.login 1.2 92/08/28 SMI source /usr/local/bin/logininit umask 077 set path=(/bin /usr/bin /usr/ccs/bin /usr/ucb /etc /usr/local/bin /sbin /sbin/bin /usr/sbin /usr/afsws/bin /usr/afsws/etc . ~whsu/SPIMSAL/bin) setenv MANPATH /usr/man:/usr/local/man:/usr/openwin/share/man:/opt/NeWSprint/man:/usr/afsws/man setenv EDITOR /usr/local/bin/pico set filec biff n date echo "Your password will expire in $PASSWORD_EXPIRES days." echo "Type kpasswd at the system prompt to change your password."
- Move the cursor down (using the arrow keys on your keyboard because the mouse does not work in telnet) to the beginning of the line that says:
- echo "Your password will expire in $PASSWORD_EXPIRES days."
- Press control-k to delete that line.
- Now do control-x to save this file.
- When asked: Save modified buffer (ANSWERING "No" WILL DESTROY CHANGES) ? type "y" (without the quotes).
- When asked File Name to write : .login, press the [return/enter] key. Now you are done editing your login file.
