Installing Hummingbird HostExplorer for Windows NT4/2000/XP
The size of the hostexplorernt.exe self-extracting file is 15,706 KB. You will need an additional 23 megabytes of free disk space on your hard drive (approximately 36 Megabytes of free disk space total) in order to download, extract and fully install Host Explorer. This version will install on both Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. Remove Older Versions of Host Explorer
- Log into the Windows NT4/2000/XP workstation as the local workstation Administrator.
- If you have a previous version of Host Explorer installed remove it by clicking on the
button, selecting the Control Panel
and double-clicking on the Add/Remove icon
. Select Host Explorer and click on the remove button.
- If you are prompted to reboot your machine do so before installing the new version..
Installing Host Explorer
- Log into the Windows NT4/2000/XP workstation as the local workstation Administrator.
- Download the hostexplorernt.exe file to a temporary directory on your PC.
- Using Windows Explorer double-click on the hostexplorer.exe file. You will be prompted to extract to the C:\ directory. You should accept this and click the 'Start' button. (If you want to install to another drive, change the drive letter).
- Click on the OK button when the windows indicates the files have been extracted correctly
- The Host Explorer v.6.2 for WinNT setup window will appear. Click on the 'Next' button to continue.
- The License Agreement window will appear. Read the license and if you agree with the terms click on the 'Yes, I agree' button.
7. The next window will prompt you to choose if you want other users on the workstation to be able to see this installation. The default choice is yes. We recommend that keep that choice, the click on the 'Next' button.
8. The next window will prompt you to choose either an Update or Complete install. Click on the radio button next to the word 'Complete' then click on the 'Next' button.
9. The next window will display the default home directory as C:\Program Files\HostExplorer.nt. (Windows 2000 users may see C:\PROGRA~1\HOSTEX~1.NT). You should accept this and click on the 'Next' button.
10. The next window will display the default user directory as C:\Program Files\HostExplorer.nt\user. (Windows 2000 users may see C:\PROGRA~1\HOSTEX~1.NT\user).You should accept this and click on the 'Next' button.
11. At the next window, note the summary information and click on the 'Finish' button. (You will see files being copied).
12. At the 'Online Registration Window click on the 'Register Later' button. At the next window, click on the 'Finished' button.
13. At the 'Shortcuts on your Desktop?' window, you can click on the 'Next' button if you want shortcuts to be placed on your desktop. If you do not want shortcuts to be created you can click on the 'No' radio button and then click on the 'Next' button.
14. The next window will notify you that the installation was successful. Click on the 'Ok' button to close the window.Accessing the Internet Login Servers
- Click on the Start button and select the Programs -> HostExplorer -> Telnet menu item. The Open Session dialogue box will open.
- Expand the view of the VT folder to display the preconfigured session profiles, apollo and orion.
- Click on one of the profiles, then click on the Connect button to connect to that server.
Accessing MVS
- Click on the Start button and select the Programs -> HostExplorer -> TN3270 menu item. The Open Session dialogue box will open.
- Expand the view of the 3270 folder to display the preconfigured session profile, mvs.
- Click on the mvs profile, then click on the Connect button to connect to that server.
Problems?
- If you receive messages during the install that certain files can not be extracted or copied you should first uninstall the previous version of Host Explorer and restart your machine before running the new installation.
- You may need to check the session profile settings to make sure they are similar to the screen shots below. Make sure the 'Send OEM reply to RPQ' option is not checked otherwise the program may hang when logging in.
