[MPH Program: Prospective Students]

Applications for Fall 2008 are now being accepted!  The application deadline is February 1, 2008.  Students are admitted to begin in the fall only.


 

A D M I S S I O N   P R E R E Q U I S I T E S

1. Two years of public health related experience

2. Undergraduate coursework in cultural, ethnic & social diversity (CESD), statistics, and social science or equivalent

3. Academic excellence (GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 units of undergraduate coursework)

* Applicants who demonstrate linguistic competence in English and a second language, in addition to meeting prerequisites, will be given preference.

**  Submission of GRE general test scores is strongly recommended.  Scores must be current within the last 5 years.  No subject tests are required.  The GRE will NOT be used to exclude students from the MPH program, but to help with placement of students in appropriate course levels.  Tests are given on specific dates only.  Refer to http://www.ets.org/gre and click on "test taker", then "general test" for information.

Step 1 – MPH Program Information Session (strongly recommended but not required)

These sessions, offered by MPH Faculty, describe the program and the application/selection procedures. The dates for these sessions are posted below.

 

Step 2 - Complete & Submit Departmental Application Packet Including:

1. Health Education MPH Application (PDF) including:

           Statement of Purpose, Resume, & Unofficial Transcripts

 

2. Three Letters of Reference using the Reference Form (PDF)

3. Program Requirement Contract (PDF)

4. Department Checklist (PDF)

Departmental Deadline*: February 1, 2008

* New students begin the MPH in the Fall only.

 

Step 3 – Complete & Submit San Francisco State Graduate Studies Application (application located on the SFSU Graduate Studies website)

Application Deadline: February 1, 2008

 

Step 4 - Notification of Acceptance

Applicants will be notified about the status of their applications in early Spring. To be admitted to the MPH Program, applicants must be admitted to the University and the Department. After a semester of coursework earning a 3.00 grade point average or better, applicants are officially moved to “classified standing.”
