Thesis / Dissertation / Written Creative Work Guidelines

 

To graduate in the semester you finish your Thesis / Dissertation / Written Creative Work you must complete all of the following steps by the "Submission of Thesis / Dissertation / Written Creative Work Deadline" printed in the Schedule of Classes-University Calendar. Be sure to give yourself enough time to finalize all corrections and obtain the required signatures.

For the First Format Check for your Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work, you must:

  1. Review deadline page for preliminary deadline date to complete your first format check: http://www.sfsu.edu/~gradstdy/degree-completion-deadline.htm.
  2. Review the Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work Formatting Guidelines.
  3. Use Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work writable template: http://www.sfsu.edu/~gradstdy/thesis-dissertation-template.htm.
  4. Complete the Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work Formatting Checklist.
  5. Print and bring preliminary pages (title page, copyright page, certification of approval page, abstract or annotation page, acknowledgment page, table of contents page, or list of tables, figures or appendices) and first ten pages of work and any pages with charts, graphs, tables and special fonts or font sizes to Graduate Studies in ADM 254 for first format check.
  6. Do not print thesis on thesis paper until approved by reviewer!

 

For the Second Format Check (if necessary), you must:

  1. Make all corrections suggested by the Thesis / Dissertation / Written Creative Work Reviewer.
  2. Reprint the Preliminary Pages that you have corrected and/or reformatted.
  3. Do not print thesis on thesis paper until approved by reviewer!

 

For the Final Format Check, you must:

  1. Print entire Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work on 25-100 % white cotton paper with watermark (available at the Bookstore or Campus Copy Center or other office supply store).
  2. After printing Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work, obtain necessary signatures from committee members. You cannot receive your thesis receipt without all original signatures for signature pages1.
  3. Once you have all signatures, bring your unbound Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work to ADM 254 for your final format check and to obtain your thesis receipt.

1 If your committee has changed please submit a Committee Revision form, http://www.sfsu.edu/~gradstdy/petition-for-committee-revision.htm.

 

After receiving the Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work Receipt, you must:

  1. Take your unbound Thesis/Dissertation/Written Creative Work and Thesis Receipt to the Campus Copy Center (located in Cesar Chavez Room 110).
  2. Pay any applicable binding fees.
  3. Hold on to your copy of the Thesis Receipt until you receive confirmation from the university that you have earned your degree.

 


IMPORTANT: Keep your copy of the receipt until you have officially graduated and have received all additional thesis copies requested.
