University Commencement (Graduation)

Students who have earned a master’s or doctoral degree from SFSU in August 2007, January 2008, or who have applied for May 2008 graduation and students who plan to graduate in August 2008 may participate in the Commencement ceremony if they apply by the May deadline (May 15, 2008).

You can check your graduation status and see if your name in spelled correctly through the Registrar Office’s search page:  http://sims.sfsu.edu/simsr/gradS.html .

All graduates must wear caps and gowns rented from the SFSU Bookstore. Master’s and doctoral degree candidates wear hoods lined with the University colors, purple and gold. The color of the velvet trim may indicate your degree’s discipline.

Cap and gown rental at the Bookstore will be on the following dates:

May 12 – 15, 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
May 16, 9: a.m. to 5 p.m.
May 17, 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
May 19 – 22, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

If you cannot come to campus during the Bookstore’s posted dates, you may order your cap and gown by phone, 415-338-Book, with a valid MasterCard, Visa, or American Express card; a $15.00 service charge will be added to the rental fees. When you rent your regalia (cap and gown) you will be given five (5) tickets to Commencement. You need one ticket for every person requiring a seat.

The gates to Cox Stadium open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Graduates line up at noon to march into the stadium at 12:15 p.m. The ceremony will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. and end at approximately 3:30 p.m. Graduate students receive a diploma cover only at the ceremony. Diplomas are sent 12 to 15 weeks after Commencement. Diploma covers are sent on request if you did not attend the ceremony.
