The Language Flagship leads the nation in designing, supporting, and implementing a new paradigm for advanced language education. Through an innovative partnership among the federal government, education, and business, The Language Flagship seeks to graduate students who will take their place among the next generation of global professionals. The San Francisco State University Chinese Flagship Program provides American students with the language and cultural expertise necessary for a China-related career.
The goal of this honors program is to assist a select cohort of students to achieve superior Chinese language proficiency while pursuing degrees in the academic major of their choice. The innovative curriculum combines intensive language instruction, mentoring by Chinese-speaking faculty, study abroad in Flagship Centers in China, internships, and culminating projects in order to produce graduates with professional-level Mandarin language proficiency in their chosen career domains.
Through our unique curriculum design, Flagship students will gain mastery of the Chinese required for their chosen careers, enabling them to find relevant professional positions in China. We hope that they may serve in the future as the cultural, scientific, and economic bridges linking China and the United States.
