Marian Alvarenga

2013-2014 University Scholarship Winner

"I am a Criminal Justice Major with a minor in Latin American Studies. I plan on pursuing a career in Criminal Justice with a focus on juvenile probation upon graduating from San Francisco State University. I want to become a Juvenile Probation Officer and provide services to all underserved and at-risk youth in the community. As a student and community enforcer, I feel it is my duty and passion to reach out to others. Empowering one's potential and abilities while loving what one does is one of the best feelings in the world."

"After graduation, I anticipate attending graduate school to pursue a MSW or MPA. Ideally, I want to work with youth, and I believe that an MSW will provide me with the best professional training and experience to fulfill my career. I know that with my potential, dedication, and hard work, I will achieve my short-term and long-term goals."

"By awarding me with this University Scholarship, I can dedicate more time volunteering at organizations that will allow me to work with youth and prepare me for the graduate program of my choice. Your generosity has made a significant impact that I only hope to give back to my community in such same manner."
