Kendra Martin
2013-2014 Bengier University Scholarship Winner
"Words cannot express how thankful I am to have received this scholarship. I am a first generation college student. The majority of my family doesn't have a high school degree, so the fact that I am in college and going to graduate this December is a tremendous accomplishment. I have slowly made my way through college. For seven years now I have worked multiple jobs while going to school full time."
"I have decided I want to give back to the community by getting my Masters in Social Work....In June I will begin my training to become a case manager at San Quentin. I will be helping the prisoners get back on their feet by researching information about how they can access education, jobs, and housing upon their release. I plan to volunteer for at least six months. I also have an interview at the end of June for 7Teepees to be a mentor for the youth. Currently I am a PSI CHI member and am also working in a lab researching conversation dominance."
"I feel so blessed to have received financial aid and this scholarship. Without this support college would not have been possible for me. This scholarship is going to help me in more ways than you can imagine....."
