To receive the Federal Direct Loan student must complete the Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) online.


The Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) - http://dlenote.ed.gov

will allow you to complete and sign a MPN online as an alternative to using a paper MPN.

To start the process for completing an electronic MPN, you will need to have your PIN # (formerly called Electronic Access Code) which is available at http://pin.ed.gov. If you do not have a PIN #, please obtain the official PIN before proceeding the next step.


Check your hardware:

    You will also need certain hardware to complete the process. Please review the hardware requirements at the Master Promissory Note site.


  1. An electronic Master Promissory Note CAN BE COMPLETED in 10 STEPS. Please read the information at the MPN site to understand how the electronic MPN process works.


  2. Estimated time for the MPN completion is 30 minutes. If you exit the web site before submitting your signed MPN in Step 9 for any reason, you will have to start over beginning with Step 1.
