Data Retrieval Tool Steps


    Log in to FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov

  1. Click Make FAFSA Corrections
  2. Then Financial Information
    If your parents answered "No" to the following questions:
    a. Did not file an amended tax return
    b. Did not file a Puerto Rican or foreign tax return
    c. Taxes were filed electronically more than 3 weeks ago (or done by mail more than 11 weeks ago)
  3. Link to IRS
    At the IRS web site- Provide the address and tax type EXACTLY as shown on your parents filed 1040 tax return (Uppercase letters and punctuations included) click Submit. Check Box "Authorize IRS to transfer the data to FAFSA". Then hit Transfer now.
  4. Return to FAFSA Sign and Submit your FAFSA.

    5. If Student filed taxes, go back to FAFSA and repeat the same process.


    Unable to use the Data Retrieval Tools:

    You must request a free tax return transcript from IRS to submit with your Verification Forms to our office. Order online at:
    Order a Transcript > year 2012> Tax Return Transcript
