American Political Science Association (APSA) Bunche Summer Institute

The Ralph Bunche Summer Institute is a 5-week, academically intensive program designed to simulate the graduate school experience, provide mentoring, and expand academic opportunities for underrepresented students who plan to pursue a PhD in political science.


Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Summer Internship Program

The Association for Women in Science provides a 10-week summer internship in Washington, D.C. to outstanding female undergraduates in STEM fields who are of African American, Latina, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent.


Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Undergraduate Awards

The AWS awards include the Kristen Lorentzen Award of up to $1,000 are to female sophomores and juniors majoring in behavioral science, life science, physical science, social science, or engineering.


Boren Scholarship

Boren Scholarships provide up to one academic year of funding to U.S. undergraduates to study abroad in areas of the world critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. These countries include Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East.


Breakthrough Collaborative Teacher Experience National Internship

Breakthrough Collaborative's summer program enables college students to obtain first-hand experience as teacher-interns preparing motivated, low-income middle school students for success in rigorous college preparatory programs.


Critical Language Scholarships (CLS)

Critical Language Scholarships provide intensive language instruction and cultural enrichment experiences abroad to undergraduate and graduate students of Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.


CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST) Student Travel Awards

Travel funding is available to CSU undergraduate and graduate student to participate in marine and coastal-related conferences.


CSU: California Pre-Doctoral Program

California Pre-Doctoral Scholars receive $3,000 in funding to develop their candidacy for doctoral programs. Applicants propose how they will use these funds: for visits to PhD-granting institutions, travel to professional meetings in their field, graduate school applications and test fees.


CSU: Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award

The Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award recognizes California State University students who have overcome adversity, demonstrate financial need, and have attributes of merit, including superior academic performance, significant personal achievements, and exemplary community service. Each year, S.F. State may nominate one to two students for this $6,000 award. One CSU nominee will receive a $10,000 award.


DAAD EMGIP (Émigré Memorial German Internship Program) Bundestag Internship Program

Two-month internships in the German Parliament ("Bundestag") for U.S. and Canadian students fluent in German.


DAAD EMGIP (Émigré Memorial German Internship Program) Internship Program

Short term internships in German State Parliaments for students planning careers in U.S. or Canadian regional government in the environment, education, and healthcare.


DAAD German Studies Research Grant -- Undergraduate and Graduate

This program offers short term research grants to highly qualified undergraduates majoring or minoring in German Studies and master's level students in the humanities and social sciences working on a project in German Studies.


DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering Program

Undergraduates in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering may apply for a summer research internship with research groups at universities and top research institutions in Germany.


DAAD Study and Internship Program (SIP) in Germany

This program offers an academic semester of study abroad at one of the German Universities of Applied Sciences followed by a one-semester professional internship experience in a company or research institute in Germany.


DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships

DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships fund 4-10 months of study at a German university in any academic field.


DAAD University Summer Course Grant

This program provides scholarships for summer courses at German universities which focus mainly on literary, artistic, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany.


Davis Putter Scholarship Fund

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides need-based grants of up to $8,000 to students actively working for peace and justice.


EPA National Network for Environmental Management Studies (EPA NNEMS) Fellowship Program

Under this fellowship program undergraduate and graduate students receive funding to work over a summer on a project at the EPA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., or at one of its 10 regional offices and laboratories.


Explorers Club: Youth Activity Grants

Explorers Club grants are offered to undergraduates conducting individual scientific or exploration research projects through their academic institution under the supervision of an instructor.


Freeman-Asia Scholarship

Freeman-ASIA (Awards for Study in Asia) scholarships support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia.


Galbraith Scholars Program

Note: The Galbraith Scholars program will NOT be offered this year. Please check back to see if the program will be offered in a future year. Underrepresented and low income students interested in issues of inequality and social policy are invited to apply for full scholarships to attend a five-day summer session at Harvard University led by its faculty, doctoral fellows, and social policy practitioners.


Gilman International Scholarship Program

Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded for study abroad for students or disciplines traditionally underrepresented in study abroad programs, or for study abroad outside Western Europe.


Goldwater Scholarship

The Goldwater Scholarship Program awards 300 scholarships annually to foster excellence in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering and to encourage outstanding students to pursue advanced degrees and careers in these fields.


Humanity in Action

Humanity in Action sponsors two summer programs: its Diversity and Democracy in America Program, held in New York City, and its Summer Core Programs in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Warsaw. An international group of fellows study the history of resistance to human rights abuses in the U.S. and Europe, and then work in international teams to complete research projects that address pressing host country minority rights issues.


Morgan Prize for Outstanding Research in Mathematics By An Undergraduate Student

An annual award of $1,200 by the American Mathematical Society and the the Mathematical Association of America to an undergraduate student (or students having submitted joint work) for outstanding research in mathematics.


NASA Undergraduate Scholarship

Scholarships of up to $15,000, plus a paid summer internship at a NASA Research Center, are awarded to highly motivated juniors and seniors interested in aeronautics and related fields.


National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science GEM Fellowship Programs

Full fellowships with paid internships to highly qualified underrepresented students to pursue an MS in Engineering or a PhD in Engineering or Science .


NIH Summer Internship Program (SIP) in Biomedical Research

This program provides an opportunity to spend the summer working with leading scientists in biomedical research at one of the National Institutes of Health intramural laboratories.


NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP)

This program provides up to 4 years of funding, at $20,000 per academic year, to exceptional undergraduates from disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. Paid summer research at the NIH is provided and, after graduation, employment and training at the NIH.


Point Scholarship

The Point Scholarship Program provides tuition, living expenses, and mentoring to outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline.


PPIA (Public Policy and International Affairs) Fellowship and Junior Summer Institutes Program

The PPIA Junior Summer Institutes (JSI) is an intensive seven-week summer program that focuses on preparing students for admission into the top graduate programs in public and international affairs, and careers as policy professionals, public administrators and other leadership roles in public service.


Saxe Memorial Fund

This $2,000 prize enables undergraduate and graduate students to gain practical experience in public service by taking a no-pay or low-pay job or internship during a summer or other term.


Truman Scholarship

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship awards highly prestigious merit scholarships of up to $30,000 to college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in public service for graduate or professional school in the U.S. or abroad.


UC Berkeley Amgen Scholars Program

U.C. Berkeley Amgen Scholars participate in 10 weeks of intensive mentored research in the sciences or biotechnology to increase their competitiveness for admission to prestigious graduate institutions.


UC Berkeley REU in Cell, Developmental, and Evolutional Biology

Ten week program in which students are assigned individual research projects in integrative biology, molecular and cell biology, and plant and microbial biology.

Wiesel Prize in Ethics

The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest is an annual competition designed to challenge college students to analyze the urgent ethical issues in today's complex world. The Foundation, rooted in the memory of the Holocaust, seeks to promote tolerance. Students are encouraged to write thought-provoking personal essays that raise questions, single out issues and are rational arguments for ethical action. Prizes range from $1,500 to $5,000.

Ten Thousand Degrees New Leader Scholarship

The New Leader Scholarship provides $8,000 in aid to extraordinary upper division undergraduates or graduate students in Bay Area public universities who are from disadvantaged backgrounds and pursuing or planning to pursue advanced education in the social sciences, human services, health-related fields, public interest law or public service.
