Program Purpose
CHCI's Public Policy Fellowship is designed to increase the presence of Latinos in underserved public policy areas and to enhance participants' leadership abilities.
Program Description
Its Public Policy Fellowship is a 9-month paid fellowship offering hands-on experience in national level public policy to talented Latinos who have recently earned a bachelor's degree. Public Policy Fellows work in congressional offices, federal agencies, or national advocacy organizations, and produce a public policy brief. Focus areas include economic development, education policy, housing, international affairs, and local government.
Its GRADUATE & YOUNG PROFESSIONAL FELLOWSHIP is a 9-month paid fellowship offering national level public policy experience to exceptional Latinos with a master's degree or higher, or three years professional experience in a public policy field. Foci of this fellowship program are: health, housing, international law, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. Fellows in international affairs spend three months in Mexico. Graduate Fellows produce a public policy brief; and organize a policy roundtable.
Benefits
Public Policy Fellows receive round-trip transportation to Washington, D.C., health insurance, and a $2,200 stipend for housing and local expenses.
Applicant Profile
Successful applicants will have excellent academics, superior written and oral communication skills, and consistent participation in public or community service activities.
Eligibility
For the Public Policy Fellowship, graduating seniors and those who have received a bachelor's degree within two years of the program start date.
Citizenship
U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Deadline
Usually mid-February.
