The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students was established to expand the existing financial aid program for visually impaired students in all CSU campuses. Mr. Schoettler was a businessman from Mountain View, California who was himself blind. Traditionally, 44 scholarships of $6,000 each are awarded each academic year to applicants who are legally blind and able to provide a physician's verification of this medical status.

In years when the scholarship is offered, San Francisco State is usually invited to select 2 recipients, and nominate up to 2 others for consideration for the scholarships.

Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time CSU undergraduate or graduate student in any major field with a minimum GPA of 2.8, and must remain a full-time CSU student with a minimum 2.8 GPA during the academic year in which the award is received.

Applicants must also document financial need: domestic students must file a FAFSA; alternative methods of documenting financial need are available to international students.

For more information on when this scholarship will next be offered, consult Todd Higgins in the Disability Programs and Resource Center. Our campus deadline is traditionally in the Spring semester, usually in late March. See also the DPRC website: http://www.sfsu.edu/~dprc/scholarship/dalems.html.
