Program Description
The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies (JISP) funds the first two years of doctoral study for Japanese nationals in applied macroeconomics. Up to 7 scholarships are awarded each year to students with records of high academic achievement.
Applicant Profile
Applicant must be admitted to a PhD Program in economics at a leading university in North America or Australia – and should apply directly to the university of their choice that meets the requirements. Dissertation subjects should focus on macroeconomics and topics relevant to the work of the IMF, such as: international economics, international finance, monetary economics, public finance, and labor economics. Scholars are expected to secure another source of funding to cover the remaining years of study. At the conclusion of their third or fourth year of graduate studies, scholars return to for a 10-13 week summer internship at the International Monetary Fund.
Eligibility
Must be admitted to a university outside of Japan with a strong doctoral program in macroeconomics. Applicants should be entering the first or second year of a PhD program and should obtain their doctorate by age 33.

Japanese national.
