The Gates Cambridge Trust aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students from outside the U.K. to study at the University of Cambridge.
These scholarships are awarded only to students who gain admission to Cambridge through its regular procedures. Applicants may apply to study for: (1) the PhD, (2) a 1-year post-graduate course (Mphil, LLM, Diploma, MBA), (3) a 2-year MSc, (4) a 2nd bachelor's degree, (5) an MBBChir Clinical Studies. Of approximately 100 awards annually, about 40 go to U.S. citizens.
Awards cover full cost of study at Cambridge, including airfare, a maintenance allowance, and a discretionary allowance for study-related activities.
In selecting Gates Cambridge Scholars, the Trust looks for students of exceptional academic achievement and scholarly promise for whom advanced study at Cambridge would be particularly appropriate. Successful applicants will demonstrate a good match between their qualifications and aspirations and what Cambridge has to offer. They will have the ability to make a significant contribution to their discipline while in Cambridge, with a strong aptitude for research, analysis and a creative approach to defining and solving problems.
Scholars are expected to use their education for the benefit of others and to improve the common good. Over time, Scholars will form an integral and dynamic part of Cambridge's international alumni network, bringing vision and new ideas to improving the lives of citizens throughout the world.
