Disability Theatre WorkshopThe SF State Theatre Arts Department will host a Disability Theatre Workshop on April 4, 5, and 6, entitled, "Beyond Victims and Villains: Contemporary Plays by Disabled Playwrights." This special 3-day event will be directed by visiting scholar/artist Dr. Victoria Lewis, of the University of Redlands, California. This interdisciplinary theatre workshop, co-sponsored by the Theatre Arts Department, Institute for Disability Studies, and the Disability Programs & Resource Center, brings together students from theatre, disability studies and the campus at large to explore the impact of disability civil rights and culture on the American stage. The workshop will include theatre exercises, media analysis, scene studies and readings from contemporary plays by disabled playwrights. It is designed to enrich students' course work in Acting, Theatre for Social Change, and Theatre History, topics focusing on multicultural theatre and diversity in theatre practice and theory. The following agenda is a preliminary schedule for the workshop: Friday, April 4 Saturday, April 5 Sunday, April 6 The Disability Theatre Workshop will be offered free of charge. However, participation is required for all three days.
