    real time captioning CART SERVICES

    (Real Time Captioning)

The DPRC coordinates the hiring of qualified CART Reporters to work with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students for both academic and non-academic purposes.

Academic purposes include, but are not limited to:

    • Classroom lectures
    • Classroom required activities
    • Student/Professor meetings

Non-academic purposes include, but are not limited to:

    • Campus activities
    • University-sponsored activities

A CART Reporter, equipped with specialized software and hardware, transcribes spoken communication such as lectures and discussion into readable verbatim English text. The student is able to follow the lecture and any other spoken communication displayed on a laptop computer screen or other display device. In general, CART works best for students who prefer English and do not use sign language as their preferred mode of communication.

Information is available on how to work effectively with CART Reporters for academic and non-academic purposes.

The DPRC also keeps updated postings of events that have CART services available.
