    DEAF & HARD-OF-HEARING SERVICES

    The Disability Programs and Resource Center (DPRC) is committed to ensuring Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students' full and equal access to all of the University's programs, activities, and services.

    The DPRC provides the following accomodations involving communication access and other services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students at SF State:

    Deaf & Head-of-Hearing Resources

    Several Tip Sheets are available to assist faculty and staff in learning how to communicate effectively with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students and staff on campus and how to maximize the use of accommodations for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in a classroom setting.

    Closed Captioned Televisions on Campus

    The following buildings on campus have TV sets with closed-captioning displayed at all times for your viewing pleasure.

    • Recreation & Dining and Lower Conference Levels of the Cesar Chavez Student Center
    • The Village Fitness Center

    If there are any other television sets on campus that are not closed-captioned, please let the management of the facility know or contact Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Services at the DPRC for further assistance.

    VRS Location on the SFSU Campus

    Video Relay Service (VRS), through a videophone appliance, is a free service for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals that allows them to make phone calls using a sign language interpreter by means of a high-speed Internet connection and a videophone.

    There is one VRS location on campus:

    • Cesar Chavez Student Center, Lower Conference Level, in the Rosa Parks Conference Wing

    Information is available on how to use the videophone in the VRS booth.

    TTY graphicTTY Locations at SF State

    TTY, an acronym for Tele Typewriter, is a communication device that enables Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals and those with speech-related disabilities to make telephone calls.

    A TTY is available for public use in two locations at the main campus and two locations at the Downtown campus:

    • Cesar Chavez Student Center, Mezzanine Level

    • Student Services Building, Main Lobby

    • Downtown Center, 5th floor, across the hall from Room 559

    • Downtown Center, 6th floor, near the Elevator Lobby

    The public TTY is designed for use with a public telephone or campus courtesy phone and does not interfere with the operation of the phone. Information is available on how to use the public TTY.
