Procurement
California Government Code 11135 applies Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, as amended in 1998, to state entities and to SFSU. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. Section 508 includes a set of accessibility standards for six categories of electronic and information technology (E&IT) including web sites and web applications, hardware, software, telecommunications, multimedia, and self-contained closed products like copiers, fax machines, kiosks, etc. SFSU must incorporate Section 508 standards as we develop or acquire new E&IT resources.
Procurement Work Group
The Procurement Work Group will focus on ensuring that any software, hardware or service purchased by SFSU is accessible.
Procurement Implementation Plan
The Procurement Work Group has developed a plan for SF State to address the elements and timelines for ensuring the procurement of accessible E&IT as contained in Coded Memoranda AA-2006-41 and AA-2007-04 issued by the CSU Office of the Chancellor.
