My voicemail is not working, why?
A: Try setting your phone to forward to x86000, your mailbox may be ok, but the problem could be that your telephone (i.e. extension) is not forwarded to voicemail's entry number x86000.

How do I get voicemail activated on my phone?

A:  Every department and college has a Unit Telecom Coordinator (UTC), if you do not know who that is in your department, contact the department secretary. It is important that you contact your coordinator first to get proper authorization. The UTC will evaluate your needs and will fill out and submit an online Telephone Work Request form.  When the Telephone Work Request  has been filled out, an e-mail will be sent to Telecommunications Services, and will also notify the person
    who has authorized the work.

Why do I have no dial tone on my Dterm?

A:  One possibility on your Dterm phone could be that the "Headset" function has been invoked, which will produce an off-hook condition. Try checking the grey arrow keys on the top row of your Dterm, select the key that reads out "Headset" on your digital display and turn it "Off".  If this solution does not return the dial tone, please call the telephone repair line at x81824.

    4.  When I try to dial out on my extension, I receive a busy signal everytime. Why?

A:  Try canceling automatic forwarding of all calls. This may be an indication that your phone is being forwarded to another number. Cancel that setting by entering "#3" on your telephone key pad, then hang up.
In the future, to re-forward to voicemail, enter "*3" & x86000.

Someone is trying to send a fax to my number, how do I solve this problem?

A:  When that happens, you can transfer the call directly to your fax line. This will enable you to see who is improperly faxing to your extension.

6   I cannot get dial tone on my line. Is there something wrong with my phone?

A:  Check to see if all of your connections are OK. Make sure that the phone lines are both connected to the wall jack as well as the phone (make sure that you're plugged into the correct jack, SL telephones will only work with a SL jack, Dterms will only work with a Dterm or multi-line jack).  If you have a Single Line phone (analog), try swapping it with a working set to see if the problem is with the line or the phone itself. If the phone still has No Dial Tone, contact the Telecommunications repair line at x81824.

When reporting a telephone repair issue, please provide the following information:
    1.   Type of phone; Single Line (analog), Dterm (multi-line), Yellow
Courtesy phone, Red Emergency phone, SL Classroom wallphone.

    2.   The phone number of the broken phone.
    3.   Your full name & contact number other than the out-of-service ext.
    4.   Specific problem with the phone:  No Dial Tone, Voicemail,
          Fast-Busy, Not-In-Service recording.
    5.   Building & office room number.

Why doesn't the VMM appear on my D-Term Phone? I think that I have messages!

A:  Check to see if your voicemail Message Waiting Indicator Light has been activated, follow the steps outlined in the Campus Directory on page 13 (AT-A-GLANCE) flowchart. From the main menu in x86000 press "4" then "1".  normal condition is Out-Call Notification - "Off", Message Waiting Indicator
    Light - "On".

8 My phone keeps ringing, why doesn't voice mail pick-up?

A:  Make sure that your "Forward No Answer" and your "Forward Busy" options are set. You can easily detect this on a D-Term phone by looking at the top row of your D-Term buttons, the first two lights to the left should be illuminated.

If you have a Single Line Phone, set these functions by entering "*2" then x86000 to forward calls to Voice Mail if you don't pick up the phone. You will then hear three 3 fast beeps which is your confirmation that it is set.

To forward calls to Voice Mail when your phone is busy, enter "*5" then x86000.

    9.  My phone is broken, what do I do with it?

A:  Contact your Unit Telephone Coordinator (UTC) who will advise you on how to deal with your broken phone.  For all Dterm phones, our technician at x81824 will have to evaluate whether the phone is repairable or needs replacement. For Single Line phones that are broken beyond repair, you may purchase a new SL phone for $38 from the Telecommunications Services office located in Old Administration Building, room 115. The charge will be billed to your extension on the next telephone bill.
