The following list of software applications contains programs and utilities helpful for Macintosh users. The list is provided by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) as a recommendation only. DoIT is not responsible for content on/from vendor Web sites.
McAfee's Anti-Virus Software
A free copy of McAfee's Anti-Virus software is available for all students, staff and faculty at SF State. For further information on this program please visit SF State's McAfee page.
FileZilla
FileZilla is a powerful SFTP/FTP client for both Windows and Mac. It has been designed for ease of use and with support for as many features as possible, while still being fast and reliable.
Apple iTunes / Quicktime
iTunes and Quicktime provide video and audio playback for many file types.
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Reader software is the global standard for electronic document sharing. Use Adobe Reader to view, search, digitally sign, verify, print, and collaborate on PDF files.
Adobe Flash Player
Adobe Flash is a multimedia platform used to add animation, video, and interactivity to Web pages.
Mozilla Firefox / Thunderbird
Mozilla Firefox is a popular web browser that is generally more secure and less prone to spyware than other browsers. Mozilla Thunderbird is a free e-mail client that SF State supports for Faculty and Staff e-mail.
Fetch
Fetch is an easy-to-use, full-featured FTP and SFTP client. Use to transfer files, rename/delete files, and create directories. Originally developed at Dartmouth University, now owned and developed by Fetch Softworks. Fetch 5 Requirements: Mac OS X 10.2.4 - 10.5.x
The Fetch serial number needs to be entered during installation. SF State's serial number is valid for Fetch versions 5.x. An SF State ID number and Password are required.
