Commands

The following majordomo commands are available to all users. To use these commands, compose a new message addressed to majordomo@sfsu.edu. Subject: line should be left blank. In the body of the message type the command you wish to use on one line. In the following examples "mailing-list" and "myemail@sfsu.edu" are generic names, you need to insert the proper mailing list name and your own email address for the commands to work. These commands are in the order of most used to least used.

subscribe <list> <email address>
e.g. subscribe mailing-list myemail@sfsu.edu

This would subscribe you to the mailing list you specify. Some lists are moderated and the list owner may need to approve new subscriptions. If no approval is required, you will receive a message from majordomo@sfsu.edu informing you that the subscription succeeded.

unsubscribe <list> <email address>
e.g. unsubscribe mailing-list myemail@sfsu.edu

This would unsubscribe you from the mailing list you specify. This command does not need list owner or moderator approval. You will receive a message from majordomo@sfsu.edu informing you that you have been removed from the list.

which <email address>
e.g. which myemail@sfsu.edu

This asks majordomo which mailing lists you are currently subscribed.

who <list>
e.g. who mailing-list

Majordomo will send you a list of all the email addresses subscribed to the specified mailing list.

info <list>

Retrieve the general introductory information for the named mailing list.

intro <list>

Retrieve the introductory message sent to new users of the mailing list. Non-subscribers may not be able to retrieve this.

lists

Show the lists served by this Majordomo server.

help

Retrieve a help message that gives you command instructions similar to what you are now reading.

end

Stop processing commands (useful if your mailer adds a signature).

Again all of the above commands should be sent to majordomo@sfsu.edu and NOT to a particular mailing list.
