Department email/web password change
Please note: Department web and email passwords are not the same. There are different directions on how to change each of them, as indicated below. Passwords for department web accounts expire every six months; department email passwords do not expire.
How to change your Department email password There are two ways to change a Department email password:
- The owner of the account can change the password using the SFSU Email Account Services "Change Password" option
- Submit an SFSU Internet Account Modification Form
How to change your Department web password (accounts on host www) If your Departmental web password has already expired you can change it in one of two ways:
- The quickest way to change your password is to follow these steps
(Note: These directions only work if your password recently expired):
- Log into your account using Telnet. If you're using a Windows machine, you could start telnet by selecting Start/Run and in the box type: telnet www.sfsu.edu
- You will be asked to enter a login. Enter your account name and press Enter/Return.
- You will be asked to enter a password. Enter the old password and press Enter/Return.
- You will be asked to enter a login password. Enter your Old Password and press Enter/Return.
- You will then be asked to enter a New Password. Enter a New Password and press Enter/Return.
Note: The password must differ from the old password by at least three positions in order to work.- You will be asked to enter the New Password again. Enter it again and press Enter/Return.
- To exit Telnet, type exit at the prompt.
- If the directions above do not work, submit an SFSU Internet Account Modification Form
HOMEIf your Departmental web password has not yet expired you can change it by:
- Log into your account using Telnet. If you're using a Windows machine, you could start telnet by selecting Start/Run and in the box type: telnet www.sfsu.edu
- Type passwd and press Enter/Return.
- You will be asked to enter a login password. Enter your Old Password and press Enter/Return.
- You will then be asked to enter a New Password. Enter a New Password and press Enter/Return.
Note: The password must differ from the old password by at least three positions in order to work.- You will be asked to enter the New Password again. Enter it again and press Enter/Return.
- To exit Telnet, type exit at the prompt.
