CHECKLIST for APPLICANTS to the M.A. ENGLISH, CREATIVE WRITING
Application period August 1st - December 15th
Please note that two different applications are required, which go to two different offices. Please read and follow this checklist carefully.
1) CREATIVE WRITING DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
Creative Writing Department
Admissions Committee
___a. One Creative Writing Department M.A. application form, this must accompany the manuscript . If you are applying to the M.F.A. program, read the M.F.A. Checklist below for instructions.
___b. One manuscript sample of your work (either 15 pages of prose, or 15 poems, or a play/dramatic writing, with a brief synopsis). Staple or paper clip your manuscript, and put your name on it. The Creative Writing Department M.A. Application Form must accompany the manuscript. Warning: once your manuscript has been mailed, there can be no changes, substitutions or additions to it! Your manuscript cannot be returned. Please don't send your only copy!
___c. One unofficial copy of all college or university transcripts. This can be an unofficial copy; a photocopy of your own copy would be fine. Transcripts may be sent under separate cover either from you, the applicant or directly from the issuing institution using the address above.
___d. Two letters of recommendation. No special form is necessary. Letters may be sent under separate cover directly from the letter writer and should be addressed to the address above.
2) CSU APPLICATION FOR GRADUATE ADMISSION

“CSU Application for Graduate Admission,” submitted electronically, via the
web, at www.csumentor.edu (Technical problems with this site,
call 800-468-6927 or email support@csumentor.edu.)
___b. Statement of Purpose, aka Personal Statement: is written in Part B of the CSU Application.
___c. One set of official transcripts for all college coursework, mailed to the SFSU Division of Graduate Studies Admissions, address above.
___d. CSU Application fee; approximately $55.00
DEADLINE for ALL documents is December 15TH. Applications are not accepted for the spring semester. Late applications are NEVER accepted. Incomplete applications will not be considered. G.R.E. scores are not required! PLEASE DO NOT CALL US TO ASK ABOUT YOUR APPLICATION! SFSU Creative Writing Department WILL SEND YOU A LETTER OF RECEIPT; SFSU Division of Graduate Studies will send you an email acknowledgement of receipt. Admission decision letters will be sent in March.
