Purpose:
| The Communication Studies Department wants majors to have information that will enhance their studies at San Francisco State University. We encourage all majors to see an advisor at least once a semester and ask about any of the following: |

- Understanding and planning your major
- Choosing G.E. and other courses
- Identifying skills that need to be acquired or enhanced
- Making progress toward your degree
- Learning about career options or preparation
- Learning about graduate study
- Other types of advising

Visit our web page to print our folder. With this document you should also keep:
- Current transcript for SF State and any other transcripts from previous college work;
- DARS (Degree Audit Report System) Report or ASE (Advanced Standing Evaluation;
- B.A. in Communication Studies: Requirements and Progress Planner;
- Your advisor's name, office hours, and phone number;
- Copies of any petitions or certificates of completion;
- List of any questions you may have for your advisor, and
- Any relevant informational handouts.

- Approach a professor whose class you took
- Ask a friend
- Ask Donna (HUM 282).
- Refer to List of Advisors (below) and initiate an appointment with one whose teaching and research areas coincide with your own interests.
