Shawn Whalen is a lecturer and the director of San Francisco State University's Forensics Team. Shawn's areas of specialization include Argumentation, Rhetorical Theory and Criticism, and Cultural Studies. Shawn directs a broad-based Forensics Team that has consistently achieved national success in both debate and individual speaking events.

Shawn is also active in regional and national forensics organizations and was the president of collegiate debate's national governing body (Cross Examination Debate Association) in 2003. He received the NCFA (Northern California Forensics Association) Distinguished Service Award for 2006-2007.
