Dr. Merrigan teaches courses in Organizational and Instructional Communication, and Research Methods. She favors the use of multiple methods for studying communication, and has co-authored a textbook (with C. Huston) called "Communication Research Methods". The book's 2nd edition will be published by Oxford University Press in 2008-2009.

Geri also facilitates training and development programs that help members of Bay Area organizations develop skills in team-building, communication between supervisors and subordinates, and resolving conflicts productively. Dr. Merrigan is an active advisor at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

She is the Chair of the Department.
